Ingredients

  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes choose good quality
  • 1 small onion or 1/2 large finely diced
  • 3-4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp cane sugar or 1 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

  • Chop the onion finely and set it aside to release its sweet aroma.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sauté the onion for about 7-8 minutes, using a bit of water or broth instead of oil until it becomes translucent.
  • While the onion is cooking, mince the garlic, letting its fragrant odor fill the kitchen.
  • Once the onion is soft, stir in the garlic, Italian seasoning, dried basil, and onion powder, cooking for another 2 minutes to enhance the flavors.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and add the crushed tomatoes along with salt. Stir the mixture, cover the skillet, and let it simmer for about 20 minutes. For a thicker sauce, leave the lid off.
  • After simmering, remove from heat and add the balsamic vinegar, adjusting the seasoning with more salt or pepper as needed to taste.
